What is this?

Definition: Work (or work unit) is a sequence of steps carried out to produce an object (or a set of objects).

When a work unit is decomposed in to steps it is called process. Lowest level work units not further decomposed into steps (atomic units of work) are called tasks. A task can be defined as a sequence of actions carried out by one person without significant interruptions.

Example: Recruitment process, Yearly employee performance appraisal process, Incident management process, Advertise position task, Receive and filter resumes task, Register incident task

Relations with other metoCube elements:

  • Work can be decomposed into steps ( Work units, Decisions and Events).
  • Work units in a process can have other element following them in the process (another Work units, Decisions or Events).
  • Work can use objects as inputs.
  • Work can produce (create or transform) objects as outputs.
  • Work performance is measured by Indicators.
